American Idol season 17 is a popularity show

American Idol season 17 unfortunately had its outcome predetermined. Most of the voting bloc pre-locked their favorites and blindly voted for the same contestant regardless of the endeavors of others. Laine Hardy relied on that kind of vote to win. The real winner is either Alejandro Aranda or Uché Ndubizu.

Aladdin and The Lion King join the billion dollar club

As I have expected, Disney's live-action remake of the 1992 animated classic Aladdin and the photorealistic CGI remake of the 1994 animated classic The Lion King have joined the billion dollar club. They are the third and fourth Disney films to achieve this feat respectively in 2019. The previous two are Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. It took over two months for Aladdin to join the billion dollar club. The Lion King achieved this feat in only three weeks.

The live-action remake of Aladdin is directed by Guy Ritchie. It stars Will Smith as Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, and Marwan Kenzari as the villain Jafar. It is Will Smith's first film to join the billion dollar club. On the other hand, the photorealistic CGI remake of The Lion King is directed by Jon Favreau, who previously directed the 2016 remake of The Jungle Book. It stars Donald Glover as the voice of Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, and James Earl Jones reprising his role from the 1994 original as Mufasa.

As of this blog post, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com, Aladdin has grossed $1,011,925,108 worldwide ($347,390,830 in the United States, and $664,534,278 overseas). The Lion King has grossed $1,014,772,857 worldwide ($376,272,857 in the United States and $638,500,000 overseas).
